One Of One Announces Industry Networking Breakfasts To Celebrate 10 Years And Women’s History Month
This year, we’ve partnered with ONE OF ONE , an organisation who over 10 years have cultivated a community that supports and empowers the music industry’s female and gender non-confirming members through networking sessions and events.
With March being Women’s History Month, and International Women’s Day taking place Saturday 8th March, ONE OF ONE is bringing back their annual breakfast networking events right across the country, bringing together the Australian music industry's leading professionals, and connecting them with a group of future leaders including artists, managers, agents, promoters, policy makers, CEOs, general managers, industry organisations, publishers, labels and many distinguished guests
The events will feature heartfelt keynote presentations (including Tina Arena in Melbourne), interesting conversations, musical performances, special announcements, and networking opportunities throughout the morning.
Ahead of the events, we sat down with Sarah Hamilton from One Of One to chat International Women’s Day, inspirational women, advice and more. Read the full interview, and find event details & tickets below.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
One of One recognises the importance of International Women's Day, particularly with the current political climate globally. IWD is about celebration of women, but also about continually pushing conversations and topics forward. We invite people to speak at our One of One events that have a story to tell, and we can't wait to platform these incredible women and people who have made such an impact on the music industry. We decided to host our events across March rather than all on IWD, so they are inclusive to both women and gender non-conforming people too.
Which powerful women inspire you?
Honestly the people that inspire me the most are the other directors and the team at One of One! We have been doing this for 10 years, we love each other and we do this out of love and passion for our community. We are so lucky to have an amazing team across AU now who are pulling these events together for the women and GNC people of the music industry. Everyone on our team inspires me.
If I had to name some other names I'd say Sose Fuamoli, Jane Slingo, Emily Collins, Mardi Caught and of course all of the women that are our keynote speakers this year, and everyone we've had previously.
What has been your proudest achievement throughout your career?
One of One is proud to be 10 years old! We can't believe it's been 10 years of online interviews, events and platforming incredible people. Also that we all get along so well after 10 years - that's something to be very proud of. Being able to grow our team recently has also been a proud achievement.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme is Accelerate Action – what does this year’s theme mean to you?
There's a lot of talk in the music industry about how to change things, but the action is sometimes the hard part. I believe that those who really try to make change are often criticised, and although it's important to call things out when necessary and have honest conversations, it's also important to allow changemakers to be imperfect.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given? And what’s a piece of advice you would pass on to others?
The best piece of advice that I've seen comes from one of our One of One interviews - Carolina De La Piedra - I loved when she said 'live your life for yourself, not how others want it'. Simple but worth remembering!
